Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations-General Committee for Agricultural Cooperation in the European Union
The united voice of farmers and their co-operatives in the European Union. Since its creation, COGECA has been recognised by the European Institutions as the main representative body and indeed the spokesman for the entire agricultural and fisheries cooperative sector.
Founded in 1980, the objectives of the Association are to improve relationship between all the European producers' organisations and, by frequent meetings, solve the European fish marketing problems.
759 unions representing over 4,600,000 transport workers in 155 countries are members of the ITF.
Created in 1998, the Association represents 135 European Auctions from 8 Member States of the European Union. Membership is open to all fishing ports and auctions within the EU and to regional or national representative groups.
Founded in 1962, the main vocation of Europêche (Association of the National Organisations of Fishery Enterprises in the European Union) is to participate in elaborating, even influencing, the Community policy regarding fisheries in the interest of the national organisations of fishery enterprises in the EU. Today, Europêche counts 17 member organisations from 11 pays countries of the European Union.
The Fisheries Secretariat is a non-profit organisation dedicated to work towards more sustainable fisheries at an international level, with a focus on the European Union.
Fisheries and Aquaculture Department
The mission of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of FAO is to facilitate and secure the long-term sustainable development and utilization of the world's fisheries and aquaculture.

The Northeast Consortium was created in 1999 to encourage and fund effective, equal partnerships among commercial fishermen, scientists, and other stakeholders to engage in collaborative research and monitoring projects in the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank.
The Northeast Consortium is comprised of four research institutions (University of New Hampshire, University of Maine, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) working together to foster this initiative.The Northeast Consortium administers funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for collaborative research on a broad range of topics.
NAFO is an intergovernmental fisheries science and management body. NAFO was founded in 1979 as a successor to ICNAF (International Commission of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries) (1949-1978). NAFO's overall objective is to contribute through consultation and cooperation to the optimum utilization, rational management and conservation of the fishery resources of the Convention Area.
OECD's work is based on continued monitoring of events in member countries as well as outside OECD area, and includes regular projections of short and medium-term economic developments. The OECD Secretariat collects and analyses data, after which committees discuss policy regarding this information, the Council makes decisions, and then governments implement recommendations. OECD is funded by its member countries.
IIFET was founded in 1982 to promote interaction and exchange between people from all countries and professional disciplines about marine resource economics and trade issues. Industry members, government and academic researchers and managers from over 60 countries benefit from membership in IIFET's network. IIFET is open to any interested individual. It address policy issues, choose conference sites, and assist in organizing conferences. The IIFET Secretariat is hosted by Oregon State University's Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

La Cooperativa de Armadores de Pesca del Puerto de Vigo se constituyó, formalmente, el día 2 de Diciembre de 1964. Hoy en día, la Cooperativa de Armadores y las Asociaciones que la integran, han logrado constituir el grupo de armadores de buques pesqueros mas importante de España y uno de los mas importantes de la U.E.
FEOPE está compuesta por 18 asociaciones / organizaciones, con 520 empresas, con una flota asociada de 581 buques pesqueros, que suman la cantidad de 166.081,36 GT, que se dedican a la pesca de litoral, bajura, altura y gran altura y que representan a gran parte del sector pesquero extractivo español, del litoral gallego, cantábrico, andaluz y mediterráneo.

The NFFO is the main representative body for fisherman in England and Wales. Executive Committee members are nominated by constituent organisations and Regional Committees, for those members who are not in Producer Organisations.
The Scottish Fishermen's Federation was formed in 1973 to preserve and promote the collective interests of Fishermen's Associations. The Federation plays an active role in advancing the interests of Scottish fishermen at national and international levels by lobby government officials in Edinburgh, London and Brussels.

Regional advisory councils
The establishment of Regional Advisory Councils (RACs), a mainstay of the reform of the common fisheries policy (CFP), seeks to involve stakeholders in the fisheries sector more closely in the decision-making process in this field. Through these ongoing forums, all the parties concerned will be able to maintain a dialogue and cooperate in the development and implementation of the CFP.

Cluster Maritime Français
Created through the wishes of the private sector under the aegis of the French Institute of the Sea (IFM), from which it is independent and complementary, the French Maritime Cluster (CMF) formally came into existence at the beginning of 2006. The purpose of the CMF is essentially a tool to promote the French Merchant Marine sector. As such, it must itself have greater knowledge and understanding of the various sectors of which it consists for dissemination to be efficient. Like the IFM, it has drawn into the line of battle for the 2007 elections. As a lobbying organisation lending its weight to members seeking its support, the CMF intervenes on specific issues either with political authorities or with decision centres which may have some influence on the activities of the CMF or on that of any of its members.

Facilities/research infrastructure
Fisheries research requires the collection of large amounts of data, for the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), but also to address more fundamental scientific questions, especially ecological ones. A great deal of information can be obtained from commercial fisheries, but there is also a need for supplementary information.
Obtaining this information often requires large scale equipment, such as research vessels equipped with laboratory facilities . This infrastructure exists in all Member states, but there are differences in their size, age, supporting facilities and level of utilization.
COM 392 (95) describes the existing facilities, namely research vessels and flume tanks with supporting facilities and analyses the large scale equipment requirements for the purposes of the CFP.
